Metropolis Resort is currently accepting applications for our Culinary Intern position! This internship is designed to give students hands-on experience in a busy resort kitchen while exploring what happens behind the scenes to create great food and memorable events.

As a Culinary Intern, you’ll have the opportunity to experience both day-to-day kitchen operations and large-scale banquet events. You’ll work alongside our culinary team, learn how a busy kitchen operates, and gain an understanding of everything that goes into preparing, serving, and presenting a consistent, quality product to our guests.

You’ll experience the fast-paced environment of the kitchen lines while also learning how culinary teams plan, prepare, and execute banquets and special events. From food preparation and plating to inventory, food safety, scheduling, and event execution, you’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to make a successful culinary operation run smoothly.

This is a great opportunity for someone interested in culinary arts, hospitality, food & beverage, restaurant management, or event catering to gain real-world experience in a busy resort environment.

What You'll Do

  • Observe and participate in daily kitchen operations.

  • Gain hands-on experience with cooking, food preparation, and kitchen line operations.

  • Learn how cooks and culinary teams manage time, preparation, and workflow during busy and slower periods.

  • Learn about kitchen organization and how menus are translated into daily prep and service.

  • Practice proper plating and food presentation.

  • Learn and follow food safety, sanitation, and kitchen safety standards.

  • Assist with receiving, storing, and inspecting food and ingredients.

  • Participate in inventory counting and learn how food levels and ordering are managed.

  • Learn how culinary teams plan and prepare for banquets and large events.

  • Assist with banquet preparation, setup, service, and breakdown.

  • See what happens behind the scenes before, during, and after a successful event.

  • Learn how culinary teams plan for large guest counts and maintain consistent food quality.

  • Assist with opening, closing, and preparation checklists.

  • Learn how culinary leaders organize tasks and keep the team moving throughout a shift.

  • Observe team training, coaching, and communication in the kitchen.

  • Learn how culinary leaders address mistakes, maintain standards, and provide feedback.

  • Learn how the kitchen works with other departments to create a successful guest and event experience.

  • Participate in check-ins with the BOH Director to discuss your experience, questions, and growth.

What We're Looking For:

  • Passionate about food and interested in the culinary industry.

  • Excited to learn what happens behind the scenes in a professional kitchen.

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.

  • Able to maintain a positive attitude, even during busy or challenging shifts.

  • Willing to get hands-on and participate in kitchen operations.

  • Dependable and willing to work as part of a team.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.

  • Interested in learning about food safety and sanitation.

  • Willing to ask questions, learn from experienced culinary team members, and take direction.

  • Able to stay organized and manage multiple tasks.

  • Interested in developing communication, teamwork, and leadership skills.

  • Excited to experience both everyday kitchen operations and large-scale events.

Your Internship Project

As part of the internship, you’ll identify one area of the kitchen that could be improved and develop a practical improvement plan. Areas could include food waste, inventory control, prep efficiency, labor scheduling, sanitation, or another opportunity identified with your supervisor.

You’ll work with the BOH Director to identify the opportunity, develop measurable goals, and present your recommendations at the end of your internship.

The goal of this internship is to help you understand what it takes to successfully operate a back-of-house kitchen, improve kitchen procedures and the work environment, and consistently serve a high-quality product to our guests.

If you're ready to learn, work hard, have fun, and explore a future in culinary leadership, apply today and become part of the Metropolis experience!
