Metropolis Resort is currently accepting applications for our Maintenance Intern position! This internship is designed to give students hands-on experience with the behind-the-scenes work that keeps a busy resort safe, comfortable, and running smoothly.
As a Maintenance Intern, you’ll work alongside experienced members of our Maintenance team to learn about everything from everyday building repairs and guest room maintenance to mechanical systems, preventive maintenance, pools, and waterpark equipment.
You’ll have the opportunity to see how many different skilled trades come together to keep a resort operating. This is a hands-on learning experience for someone who enjoys working with their hands, solving problems, figuring out how things work, and learning new skills.
This is a great opportunity for someone interested in maintenance, engineering, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, construction, facilities management, or the skilled trades to gain real-world experience in a busy resort environment.
Assist Maintenance team members with daily work orders and maintenance requests.
Assist with basic repairs and general building maintenance under appropriate supervision.
Gain hands-on experience with painting, drywall, carpentry, and general repairs.
Assist with basic plumbing and lighting maintenance.
Help maintain clean and organized maintenance shops, mechanical rooms, and work areas.
Learn how to properly use and care for tools and equipment.
Assist with guest room maintenance and preventive maintenance inspections.
Learn how to inspect lights, switches, doors, locks, faucets, toilets, showers, drains, and HVAC systems.
Help identify damaged or malfunctioning equipment and communicate issues to the appropriate team member.
Participate in scheduled preventive maintenance inspections.
Learn how maintenance teams identify and address problems before they become larger issues.
Assist with inspecting and maintaining pool and waterpark equipment with qualified team members.
Learn the basic operation of pumps, filters, heaters, motors, and other mechanical equipment.
Gain exposure to HVAC systems, boilers, water heaters, pumps, air handling equipment, plumbing, electrical systems, and building automation.
Learn how work orders, maintenance documentation, and preventative maintenance schedules are managed.
Assist with projects and other maintenance tasks based on your training and experience.
Work alongside experienced Maintenance team members and learn from their knowledge and expertise.
Safety is a major part of working in Maintenance. Interns will learn and follow resort safety policies and procedures, including:
Proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Tool, ladder, equipment, electrical, and chemical safety.
Proper procedures for working in mechanical areas.
Lockout/tagout procedures when applicable.
How to identify and report unsafe conditions.
Maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
Interns will never be expected to perform work outside of their training, authorization, or ability. All hands-on work will be completed with appropriate supervision.
Interested in learning how things work and how to fix them.

Has a positive attitude and is willing to jump in and help.

Interested in maintenance, engineering, construction, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or another skilled trade.
Previous maintenance, construction, mechanical, or trade experience is helpful but not required.
During your internship, you may have the opportunity to identify a maintenance or facility improvement that could benefit the resort.
Your project could involve identifying a recurring maintenance issue, researching possible solutions, estimating costs or resources, and presenting your recommended improvement to the Maintenance Director and members of the resort leadership team.
The goal of this internship is to give you a behind-the-scenes look at how a resort operates while providing hands-on exposure to multiple skilled trades and facility systems.
