All About Summer Fun in Eau Claire | Fun Intended - Ep

May 28, 20264 min read

Thinking about a summer getaway in the Midwest but not sure where to start? In this episode of Fun Intended, Luke from Visit Eau Claire and I are sharing why Eau Claire is such a special place to spend the summer. From local events and outdoor adventures to favorite food spots and family-friendly fun, we’re giving you a look at the places, experiences, and hidden gems that make summers here feel different. If you’re planning a family trip, this is your sign to add Eau Claire to the list.

The Summer Energy You Can’t Miss

Let’s start with the vibe. There’s honestly nothing like summer in Eau Claire. As soon as the weather warms up, everyone heads outside, walking downtown, hanging out in the parks, or just catching up over drinks on a patio. Luke nails it when he says the city’s energy is next level in the summer. There’s something happening every day of the week, so you never run out of things to do, whether it’s a spontaneous art walk or a full-blown music festival.

Outdoor Adventures for Days

If your family’s anything like mine, you want to burn some energy outdoors and Eau Claire makes it so easy. My personal favorite? The bike trails. We’ve got 77 miles, which feels unreal in a town our size. No matter where you are, there’s a trail nearby. Pack your bikes or rent one when you get here. It’s such a fun way to explore without spending a fortune. And don’t sleep on Big Falls County Park, Luke shared how great it is for swimming and taking a quick hike.

Family-Friendly Must-Dos

This city is made for families! Carson Park is a local favorite, grab tickets to see the Eau Claire Express baseball team, then treat the kids to a ride on the Chippewa Valley Railroad right next door. There’s also a beautiful playground and walking trails around the whole park.

And please don’t leave Metropolis Resort off your list. I’m obviously biased since I work here, but Action City and Chaos Water Park are hands-down favorites for families visiting Eau Claire. Even if you’re just stopping by for the day, there’s so much here to keep everyone happy.

Eau Claire = Music & Art All Summer

One of my favorite things about Eau Claire is how much live music you can find in the summer. The Sounds Like Summer Concert Series on Thursday nights is the best, it’s right on the river, there are food trucks, and it just feels like the heart of summer. If you’re up for more, check out Rock'n on the River over in Altoona for another awesome family-friendly night out.

Don’t forget to stop by the Pablo Center at the Confluence. Whether you check out an art show or just wander around Haymarket Plaza, it’s one of those spots that makes Eau Claire feel extra special.

Food, Shops, and Local Surprises

It truly wouldn’t be summer without good food, and Eau Claire does not disappoint! You have to hit up Food Truck Fridays; it’s always a highlight for me and my friends. Luke also swears by Leona’s Pizzeria, and I’ve heard nothing but rave reviews.

Pop into The Local Store if you want a fun gift or just a little Eau Claire memorabilia. If you’re okay with a quick drive, Together Farms is a hidden gem with burger nights, live music, and lots of farm animals for the kids.

Why Eau Claire Is the Perfect Family Getaway

You get big city experiences, but in a way that’s affordable, friendly, and manageable, no battling giant crowds or crazy parking prices. There’s always something new going on and it just feels welcoming for everyone.

So if you’ve been thinking about Eau Claire for your next summer adventure, take my advice (and Luke’s!): stop thinking, just book your trip! Summer is our busiest season and I promise you’ll leave feeling refreshed, inspired, and a little bit like you’ve found the Midwest’s best-kept secret.
