Metropolis Minute: A Holiday Note From Kate

Since we are officially deep into holiday mode at the resort, I thought I would switch things up in the Metropolis Minute this week and actually introduce myself. I'm the one writing to you every week in your inbox, and the holidays feel like the perfect time to say hello and let you in on why this season means so much to me.

Here's me getting a Christmas tree with my family this year!

My name is Kate, I work on the marketing team and I get to help bring the holidays to life here at Metropolis. Christmas has always been my favorite time of year. When I was a kid, I was the one rearranging ornaments, setting up decorations way too early, and begging my parents to let me sleep under the tree every December. That same energy is still very much alive. My coworkers even know all about my growing collection of snow globes (and they help me add to it)!

One of my very favorite days at work is the day we decorate the resort for Christmas. It is a full team effort. Everyone leaves their offices, holiday music shows up out of nowhere, and we spend the whole day trying to make Metropolis feel a little more magical. Some moments are picture perfect, like the trees all lit up. Some moments are...less so, like when we are panic stapling fake snow to tables in the lobby because we refuse to give up on the vision or have somehow mixed up pieces to the trees. It is chaotic in the best way.

We also do a holiday potluck that day and pull names for Secret Santa. Then we jump right into planning our staff Christmas party. Every year we try to make it a little more fun with games, prizes, food, and of course some time in the parks.

Believe it or not, our village in the hotel lobby is our biggest collective effort.

On the marketing side, this season gets a little wild for us. We hope you loved our Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals (those take a whole lot of caffeine and teamwork). Even with a couple long days, it is always worth it when I get to see the fun come to life for our guests. It is especially worth it when I get to make something like Splasharoo’s gifting letters. I love knowing those letters might help you wrap up an experience in a way that feels just a little more special.

So truly, thank you for spending your holidays with us. It means so much to know Metropolis is a place where your families make memories and where some of your traditions live.
