Bringing Back Old Tech and Raising the Next Generation

January 07, 20252 min read

Tech Growth: Fast and Furious

We got into how tech is evolving at an insane pace. We agree that this isn’t slowing down any time soon. If anything, tech and business innovation are speeding up. Kim made a great point about customer expectations: what people want now sets the bar for the future.

Take AI, for example. It's been around, but it’s only recently that we've started to unlock its full potential. This leads to periods of rapid advancement with pauses for us all to catch our breath and adapt. It’s a wild ride!

Modern Parenting Challenges

Switching gears to something a bit more personal, we chatted about how parenting has changed through generations. Nowadays, people tend to have kids later in life, which comes with its own set of challenges. From the high costs of daily child care to balancing work and family life, modern parents have their hands full.

We noticed that many families are moving back to the suburbs from cities, probably because it’s a bit easier to raise kids out there. These shifts influence how businesses – big and small – need to adapt to meet new family needs.

Where We Get Our Info

Here's the fun part – we shared where we get our info and learn new things. For me, nothing beats chatting with friends and family from diverse fields. I also rely on stuff like the Kiplinger newsletter and books like "Unreasonable Hospitality." Plus, I keep an eye on trends by observing consumer behavior in everyday spots like resorts and Dairy Queen outlets.

Kim loves talking to people in her family’s barbershop for fresh perspectives. It’s amazing what you can learn when you step outside your usual bubble. This kind of cross-industry talk helps us stay sharp and ready to adapt.

Hopes for Future Generations

Finally, we looked towards the future and shared our hopes for the next generation. Tom talked about the importance of cutting down on screen time for better personal development. He believes that unplugging more often helps young folks engage with the real world.

Kim shared her dream for kids to find joy and success in what they love, stressing the importance of community and a balance between personal care and giving back. Despite all the challenges, we all felt a sense of optimism. We believe that with wisdom and guidance, the younger folks are going to be just fine.

So there you have it! This episode was a blend of tech talk, generational insights, and hopes for the future. It’s a conversation about embracing change and supporting the next gen to do even better.

Thanks for tuning in to the blog! Remember, your thoughts and insights make our discussions richer, so don’t hesitate to share what’s on your mind. Email me at brian@mixingfamilyandbusiness.com and make sure to listen to the full episode here!

Till next time!

We had a fantastic 2-night-getaway at Metropolis. The hotel is clean and well maintained, the staff is incredibly friendly and accommodating, the water park and Action City were perfect for our family. Also loved the dog friendly rooms. We will absolutely be back. Our kids cried when we left. Fun family weekend!
