If you've driven by Metropolis recently, you've probably noticed there's a lot happening.

The Action City expansion has been taking shape for months, and naturally, we've been getting a lot of questions. What's being built? Why these attractions? When will everything open?

In this episode of Fun Intended, I sat down with our Project Manager, Billy, to answer some of those questions and share a behind-the-scenes look at how this project came together. While the new attractions are exciting, this expansion is really about creating more opportunities for families to spend time together and making Action City a place guests want to come back to again and again.

How It All Started

Honestly, we’ve been talking about expanding for years. Billy (our resident DOOF - Director of Overall Fun) has been working on the plan for about three years, figuring out how much space we could actually add and what would fit. Over time, it turned into a three-phase project that’s going to bring brand-new attractions and family favorites to the Chippewa Valley.

What’s Changing? (Spoiler: A Lot.)

We’re adding a little over 50,000 square feet. Here’s the quick breakdown:

• Phase 1: New building with a spin coaster, all-new indoor mini golf, a modern go-kart track, and a drop tower. Plus, a fresh front desk and office space for our team (finally!).

• Phase 2: When the new building opens, the old go-kart track is out and we’re putting in 15 lanes of super cool bowling (think big screens, interactive games, and party features). This is when we'll get a brand-new laser tag arena too!

• Phase 3: Finally, refreshing the arcade space, extra birthday rooms, and a bigger redemption center.

Everything is going to feel more open, more inviting, and way more fun!

Picking the Attractions - It Wasn’t Easy!

People always ask how we choose what to add. We've looked at everything! We sent team members to IAAPA, toured other facilities, and did lots of brainstorming. We even thought about a movie theater at one point! We finally settled on attractions we knew our guests (especially families) could enjoy year-round, like the indoor mini golf.

We moved bowling next to the restaurant to tie in food and drinks, and every attraction was picked to make sure there’s something for everyone, from little kids to grownups.

Everything Gets a Theme and a Makeover

One of my favorite parts of this conversation was talking about how the expansion isn't just about adding more things to do.

It's also been an opportunity to rethink the overall experience.

You'll start seeing more consistent theming throughout Action City, refreshed branding, and attractions that connect together in a way they never have before. Even some of the names and design elements include little nods to our history that longtime guests might recognize.

It's all part of creating a destination that feels intentional from the moment you walk through the doors.

What About Pricing?

Let’s be real, everyone wants to know if prices are going up. The short answer? Not really. We’re changing how we bundle things, hopefully making it easier at the front desk and bringing more value to you. Packages will make more sense, and we’ll still continue to have membership options (which are a steal if you come often). We want you to come back more than once a year, so we’re not looking to increase the price too much, value is everything for us.

Refreshes Beyond Just Action City

While the expansion has been the biggest focus, it's not the only thing happening around the resort.

Over the past year we've refreshed parts of Chaos Water Park, updated hotel rooms, added new attractions to the trampoline park, and continued making improvements throughout the property.

Our goal has always been to keep improving the experience, whether that's through a major expansion or smaller updates guests notice during their next visit.

Looking Ahead

There's still plenty of work ahead, but seeing the building take shape has made the vision feel more real than ever.
