There's so much to love about the holidays, but one of my favorite traditions is baking and decorating sugar cookies with my family. We still follow my grandma's sugar cookie recipe off an old handwritten note and have so much fun decorating them!
4 cups of flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 cup of Crisco
2 eggs, beaten
1 cup of sugar
1/3 cup of milk
1 tsp. vanilla
In one bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
In a second bowl, beat the eggs and then mix in sugar, milk, and vanilla.
Mix the Crisco into the egg mixture.
Start slowly mixing in the bowl of dry ingredients.
Once fully mixed I like to leave the dough in the fridge or freezer to cool (this will make it easier to roll and cut).
Once you're ready, roll out the dough and lay on cookie trays. You can roll the dough into balls and bake, but we love using cookie cutters and making fun shapes!
Bake at 350° for 8-9 minutes or until puffy and golden brown.
Decorate with buttercream or icing, and use your favorite toppings (mine are mini chocolate chips, sprinkles, edible beads, and decorating gel for tracing).
Enjoy your freshly decorated cookies! Don't forget to save some for Santa!
