Metropolis Resort is seeking an experienced, hands-on Human Resources Manager to lead our people strategy, HR operations, recruiting, employee relations, and compliance efforts.
Located in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Metropolis Resort is a locally owned hospitality and entertainment destination with approximately 230 employees. Our property includes a 111-room hotel, Chaos Waterpark, Action City, City Eats, Caribou Coffee, event spaces, and numerous family-entertainment attractions. A major 55,000-square-foot expansion is expected to add approximately 50 positions to our team.
The Human Resources Manager will report to the General Manager and serve as the senior HR leader for the organization. This is an on-site, highly visible position requiring a leader who can balance strategy with hands-on execution.
Develop and execute an HR and workforce plan supporting business growth and seasonal demand
Lead recruitment for hourly, seasonal, professional, and leadership positions
Build strong candidate pipelines and improve hiring, interviewing, selection, and offer practices
Execute onboarding systems
Advise department leaders on staffing, performance, compensation, and employee relations
Coach managers on feedback, documentation, corrective action, and accountability
Manage employee complaints, workplace investigations, conflict resolution, accommodations, leaves, attendance issues, and separations
Oversee performance reviews, goal setting and performance-management processes
Manage compensation practices, job descriptions, classifications, wage reviews, and internal equity
Oversee benefits administration, annual enrollment, employee records, policies, and handbook updates
Oversee payroll processes, ensuring accurate and timely payroll, wage and hour compliance, timekeeping practices, payroll reporting, and coordination with accounting and payroll providers
Ensure compliance with applicable federal, Wisconsin, and local employment requirements
Partner with Accounting, Director of Training and Development, operational leadership, employment counsel, benefit providers, and insurance partners
Improve HR technology, workflows, reporting, and documentation
Track turnover, time to fill, retention, onboarding completion, staffing levels, and other workforce metrics
Lead and develop members of the HR team
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business, organizational leadership, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and progressively responsible experience
At least two-three years of broad human resources experience
Significant experience in employee relations, recruiting, performance management, compliance, and leadership advising
Strong knowledge of employment practices and the ability to identify when legal or technical guidance is needed
Proven ability to conduct workplace investigations and handle sensitive employee matters
Excellent communication, coaching, organization, judgment, and follow-through
Ability to work primarily on-site and maintain appropriate flexibility for a multi-shift operation
Preferred Qualifications
HR leadership experience in hospitality, entertainment, attractions, food and beverage, retail, healthcare, manufacturing, or another multi-shift environment
Experience supporting an organization with 200 or more employees
Experience with rapid growth, seasonal staffing, a major expansion, or a new-property opening
Experience implementing or improving HR systems and workforce reporting
SHRM-SCP, SHRM-CP, SPHR, or PHR certification
