Appreciation in Action: How We Make Metropolis Resort Feel Like Family

Hey everyone, Kate here! If you know me, you know I’m a sucker for good vibes and real connections, which is exactly what we aim for at Metropolis Resort. Appreciation isn’t just something we say, it's something we do every day, with every guest. In this blog, I’ll give you my personal take on how we try to make everyone feel welcome, why that matters so much, some behind-the-scenes stories, and what the future could look like for all of us. Whether you’re a regular, a first-timer, or just curious, I hope you see why Metropolis feels like a big, fun family.

It’s All About How People Feel

One thing I’ve learned from working here (and from working with Mariah Geisert, who honestly is my hospitality hero!) is that what people remember most isn’t the shiny new ride or the arcade games. It’s how they felt the whole time. We chatted about that on the podcast when I asked Mariah what pops into her mind after seven years at Metropolis. Her answer? It’s about making people feel seen and special. You can buy fun anywhere, but what sticks with you is the feeling, that’s what makes you come back.

So, when you leave us a little happier, or more connected with your family, or basically just feeling like you belong, that’s a huge win for us.

Why “Appreciation” Is More Than Just a Party

COVID really flipped the script in the world, and it definitely changed things for us, too. Suddenly, people were pickier about where they went and way more focused on experiences, which totally makes sense. Like Mariah Geisert said, Metropolis isn’t exactly a basic human need, so when you choose us, we are genuinely grateful. That’s where appreciation comes in.

We don’t just save the thanks for big events either. The little stuff matters just as much! We send thank you cards when your kid has a birthday party here, sometimes send out little surprises in the mail, and if you mention it’s your birthday when booking, you might just find something fun on your door.

Relationships Matter (Honestly, Sometimes More Than the Attractions)

Okay, yes, go-kart races are awesome and seeing families playing together never gets old. But I actually love building relationships with guests just as much, if not more. It’s something Mariah Geisert and I talked about, that feeling of knowing people by name, remembering their stories, and seeing them create their own memories under our roof.

What really gets me is watching families connect, parents laughing with kids, big groups celebrating together, or even just old friends reconnecting. I think people walk out remembering those moments more than who won at mini-golf.

Our Guests Always Know When We Care

I totally believe people can tell when you genuinely care about them. Mariah Geisert was spot on saying people pick up on authenticity. That’s why we launched the Customer Appreciation Party after COVID shook everything up. We just missed seeing everyone SO much, and honestly, the resort felt empty and boring without guests around. The party has become an annual highlight, but we make a point to switch things up each year so it doesn’t feel like we’re just ticking off a box.

Our whole leadership team is there, chatting, handing out food, or just playing a few games, anything to make our thanks more real. The best part? We can actually see and feel the happiness and gratitude from everyone who comes.

Why We Love Those Little Moments (And Why They Matter So Much)

Some of my all-time favorite stories from Metropolis are the ones that start small, like the kid who mailed back a lollipop he’d taken without paying, along with a sweet apology letter. Mariah Geisert didn’t just accept it; she sent him a letter back and free passes as a thank you for being honest. That kind of stuff? It sticks with you, both for families and for us staff.

Honestly, those stories become part of why I love my job. Being appreciated goes both ways, and sometimes the simplest moment makes the biggest impact.

Community, Growth, and What’s Next

Metropolis has always been about the people. Every event, every new arcade game, every party is just another excuse to bring everyone together. Events like Customer Appreciation Day help us build a real, lasting community and I love being part of it.

Looking ahead, we’re always cooking up new ideas and ways to keep saying thanks (without ever getting stale). We have expansion plans, and I personally can’t wait to welcome even more teens, young adults, and new families. We want everyone, locals and visitors alike, to feel like they belong here.

So, if you’ve been part of a Metropolis memory, thank you! And if you haven’t yet, come see why appreciation is more than just a word here. We’d love to welcome you into our big, crazy, loving Metropolis family.
